Questioning what had to come first
Dan and his wife had long been interested in real estate. They initially thought a project would need to be close to home and depend on the conventional financing requirements they already knew.
They spent months looking through Jake’s content and checking the experiences of existing students before joining. Dan describes being someone who liked figuring things out himself, but deciding with his wife to invest in a more structured way to learn.
Putting the learning into practice
After finishing the course, they made numerous offers and secured a house in another state, about 1,500 miles away. Dan says they had bought the property and started the rehab by the time he recorded this update.
He describes speaking daily with an agent and a contractor he had not met in person, managing the project from his home office. He also says he used some of his own funds; this particular story should not be read as a purchase made entirely with outside money.
Building toward longer-term plans
The renovation was still underway. The figures Dan discussed for a future resale were projections, and he was already considering a second property.
His longer-term interest included keeping properties as rentals. He emphasizes making time for the work, finding the right people, and building relationships while he and his wife continued running their existing businesses.
